Alberto de Castro studied Physics in University of Valladolid, Spain.
As a PhD Student in Instituto de Óptica (CSIC, Madrid) with Susana Marcos he studied the gradient refractive index of the crystalline lens in using Optical Coherence Tomography images of in vitro lenses and a search routine based on genetic algorithms.
He then moved to Indiana University to learn retinal imaging techniques with Stephen A. Burns. He modified the Adaptive Optics loop to improve the image acquisition in presence of small head movements and using a dual channel Adaptive Optics Scanning Laser Opthalmoscope (AOSLO) he studied the velocity of the red blood cells in the retinal capillaries by introducing a small temporal separation between channels.
Currently he is working in Murcia in Pablo Artal’s lab in the project SEECAT to image the retina in presence of cataracts.
